Summary

In this article, you'll find instructions for how to convert your Starlink Mini dish to run on DC power. Our Starlink Mini PoE DC Power Conversion Kit enables you to convert your Starlink Mini to run on DC power and over a standard ethernet cable, eliminating the need for the Starlink power supply that relies on AC power and allowing for external router support (optional). This kit includes a DC Step-Up converter & PoE Injector and PoE to DC Splitter (48V DC Out) at the dish end, as well as weather resistant connectors at the dish end giving you everything you need except a standard CAT 6 ethernet to convert your Starlink Mini into a full functioning Starlink with PoE support. This kit accepts 9-30v DC power input via the DC power terminal and outputs 48v to the Starlink Mini dish. The listing page also has an optional 12v power output cable which can be used to power a Peplink router for a simplified solution with only one 12v power cable needed from your battery.

Compatibility Disclaimer: This kit and these instructions only apply to the Starlink Mini kit. Please reference the links at the bottom of this article for instructions on how to convert Starlink Standard Gen 3 and the Starlink HP to DC.

Disclaimer: This product has been tested by MobileMustHave staff to be functional and reliable. This kit is also not designed to be operated with other PoE switches or accessories as Starlink uses proprietary passive PoE technology.

Before We Get Started, The Basics

What's Inside the Kit?

  • High Wattage Step Up Converter and Passive POE Injector (accepts DC Input Voltage of 9-30v and outputs via POE at a max of 200W (100W Max using Mini POE/DC Splitter Adapter)
    • USB-A 12V accessory power output which can be used with optional cable to power Peplink router for simplified wiring (20W Max)
    • USB-C 5V output (not used, available for future low power)
  • Starlink Mini PoE to DC/Ethernet adapter (48v Output) with 1000Mbps support and weather-resistant connectors at the dish and ethernet connectors (supplies power and ethernet to dish)
  • Wiring Instructions

Optional Accessories:

        Kit Requirements:

  • Starlink Mini Dish (see pictures for compatible dish)
  • CAT6 Ethernet Cable (optional at checkout)
  • 12-24 fused Power Input from vehicle batteries. Note this unit can technically draw up to 200W and required proper cable gauge and fuses to avoid excess heat or unsafe condition (not typical as Mini dish only uses about 60w but we recommend you size your installation correctly regardless for future-proofing). Typically, 10-14 gauge on 12-24v input with a fused home run from house battery is recommended (possibly larger wire for longer runs, consult an electrician for proper wiring sizing on DC power systems).
    • Note that by running the correct size wires you are future-proofing as this kit can also be used with the Starlink Gen 3 dish by removing the PoE to DC/Ethernet adapter and using the standard Starlink Gen 3 ethernet cable included with the dish.

SAFETY TIP: As with all electrical installations, make sure to turn off all AC and DC power, properly wire and fuse your install & be safe!

Set up Instructions (No cable cutting needed)

  1. Connect a fused DC power cable to a 12v-24v DC Power source (House Battery/Fuse Block) and to the power input terminal on the conversion unit. RED wire to 12v+ and the  Black to 12v- Negative typically however always check with a multimeter before attaching any accessory to ensure the polarity is correct.
    • Recommended power cables: use fused 10-14 gauge wire (possibly thicker for longer runs)
  2. Connect your CAT6 Ethernet cable to the port labeled "POE" on the conversion unit and run this cable to dish (attaching any other accessory to this cable other than the included Mini POE splitter may cause damage to the equipment including your Mini Dish).
  3. Use a standard ethernet cable to connect the LAN output from the DC power converted to your Peplink router's WAN port as shown in the illustration below.
  4. (Optional) If you want to use the conversion kit to power your Peplink router as well; use the optional USB-A to 4-pin power adapter. Hook up the 4 pin end to your Peplink's power input, use the USB-A side of the cable to connect to the USB-A port on the DC Power Converter.
