The Virtual WAN Activation License can only be used with all PrimeCare models (except for UBR LTE and Transit Mini) and some selected models.

Article Summary

This article will display how to use your LAN port as a virtual WAN port, or VWAN. While a LAN port can provide internet access from your Peplink router to another device, like a computer or printer, a WAN port can provide internet from another internet source, like Starlink or another hotspot, to your Peplink router. With a VWAN, you can add another internet source to your router if needed, making your Peplink device even more versatile.

Action

Step 1. From your router’s Dashboard, select your VLAN WAN 1 connection.

Next, ensure that this is enabled by checking the box next to “Enable”. Then, ensure that under Physical Interface Settings, your Uplink Interface is set to LAN. Set your VLAN ID number to something that isn’t already being used on your Peplink’s network; in this case, we have used number 5. If you had your device configured by MobileMustHave, followed our best practices, or left your router unconfigured from factory settings, 5 should work perfectly, but if you have changed your settings yourself, you should ensure that the ID you use isn’t used elsewhere.

Step 2. After this is complete, you’ll need to assign your virtual WAN to one of your physical LAN ports. To do this, navigate to your Network tab, then to your Port Settings, as shown below.

While our example Peplink only has a single LAN port to configure, others may have multiple, and any of them may be used as a virtual WAN port. Regardless of which one you choose, open its settings by clicking the pen-and-paper icon next to your chosen LAN port.

Once you have opened your LAN port’s settings, change its Port Type from “Trunk” to “Access”. Then, click the VLAN Networks drop-down box, and select Reserved VLAN, which should have the same ID number that you set when you were altering your VLAN WAN settings previously - in our case, this number was 5.

Step 3. After this, make sure to click Save, and then click the Apply Changes button in the upper right corner of your screen.

You should now return to your dashboard and check the status of your VLAN WAN connection. If you have a physical WAN connection to this port, it should now show as connected.
