Summary

Unlike the High Performance Starlink Dish (which can only be powered by AC) the Standard Starlink Dish (or Dishy) can be powered by either AC or DC power. In this article, we provide both instructions and diagrams for how to integrate the Dishy into your Peplink mobile internet setup using both powering methods.

Powering Options

Integrating the standard Starlink kit into a Peplink setup is a bit different from doing so with the high-performance dish. There are two different methods that you can use to power your Dishy before connecting it to your Peplink.

Option 1: AC power

The most notable thing to point out here is that you have to incorporate the Starlink router into the equation. The standard unit integrates the dish power supply and router. You put the router in passthrough mode (an option in the Starlink app) and then use the Starlink ethernet adapter sold on Starlink.com to uplink via the WAN port to your Peplink for a true failover solution with cellular or other Peplink WANs available.

Option 2: DC Conversion

You can do away with the Starlink router by getting a DC power supply for the dish made by a 3rd party. For this option, you'll need to either cut the ethernet adapter or the Starlink adapter and convert the cable to ethernet. While we don't have any direct experience doing these types of conversions, there are tons of forum posts and YouTube videos that you should be able to find with a quick Google search.

Powering the dish via POE (power over ethernet)

To do this you need 3 things:

Gigabit PoE Injector for Mobile Installations (120v AC / DC12V Input) – MobileMustHave.com

Note: This is not compatible with the HP Starlink dish.

  • Starlink cable to ethernet adapter converter (converts the Starlink cable to ethernet so you don't need to cut and re-terminate the cable).

Once you have the above working, connect the converted ethernet cable to the LAN side of the POE injector into the Peplink's WAN port. This will put Starlink on the WAN. You then need to enable Starlink support (available with firmware 8.4) in your Peplink's admin console. You can find this under the "Ports" page of the admin console. The Starlink logo and statistics will now show up in InControl as an added bonus.

Gen 3 Dish

The information that we have on Gen 3 conversions is limited and purely theoretical at the time that this article was written, as the Gen 3 is very new, and we don't have any personal experience doing these conversions. We don't have any more information about the specifics of Gen 3 conversions at this time. We will update this article as more information becomes available. We advise checking RV forums and blogs for more information on this topic. RVmobileinternet.com has a whole section of their website dedicated to Starlink and would be a good place to start.

Configuration

When connecting your Starlink to your Peplink device, you will want to ensure the following has been done:

1. Enable Starlink Bypass Mode
  • Open up the Starlink app
  • Tap Settings
  • Swipe down and tap Bypass Mode
  • Slide the toggle to the right
  • When prompted, confirm you want to continue by tapping OK
2. Using the Starlink ethernet adapter product, ensure that you are wired in the WAN port (not the LAN port)
  • Ensure WAN is enabled as WAN in Network Tab -> Port Settings
  • Ensure WAN is in Priority 1
3. Health Check Method set to PING
