Overview
This article will explain how to activate a new eSIM data plan using an activation code in Peplink routers. Please note that only some Peplink devices are eSIM compatible. For a full list of compatible devices, check out the "Supported models" section here: Peplink’s eSIM Technology. Additionally, your router must be under warranty. This is because eSIM activations on Peplink devices are a feature of InControl management software which requires PrimeCare warranty. Once the eSIM profile is loaded onto your device, warranty is no longer needed to maintain that specific profile.
Step one - Meet requirements for eSIM activation
- The modem where you are applying this eSIM profile is not in use whatsoever
- We suggest that it remains in the disabled position, but it should work as long as that modem is not a priority 1, active internet source. (Learn more about Managing Multiple Internet Sources)
- There is another internet source active in your Peplink device for the eSIM to successfully load
- eSIM activations require the internet to complete the upload. This is why another internet source must be active.
- Your router has a minimum firmware version of 8.4.1 (8.5 and above is preferred)

Step two - Access your device via InControl

Log in to InControl. Navigate to your group (rather than your organization tab). Your group will have its own unique name that you created at some point. Locate the device in your group and click on it. See image below:

Clicking on your device will take you to the Device Details page.
Step three - Activate the eSIM profile
From the device details page, click Settings>Device Tools. Select eSIM activation from the commands, check the "Input Manually" box, and enter your activation code into the new field. Then click submit:
This will likely take 1-2 minutes. If your cellular modem is unused and your other internet source is strong enough, you should see a confirmation notification appear briefly on this screen. Please ensure you keep this screen active so you can see that confirmation before it disappears.
Step four - Start using your new eSIM plan!
Access the admin panel. From the previous screen, you can easily click on "Device Details" top left to get back to your device page. From there, you can click settings again, but this time select "Remote Web Admin". This will connect you to your device's admin panel.
From there, you can access the cellular details screen for the modem where this plan was activated. You will now see BYO eSIM (A if it is your first eSIM activated, B if it is your second, etcetera) from the details screen. Toggle that on and save and apply. Leave it be for up to 15 minutes after applying and ensure it is connected.
