What is the difference?

Roof Antenna Examples

External roof antennas are an additional purchase on top of the Peplink router itself. You can find roof antennas recommended in the different bundles we offer. However, below are some examples of what a roof antenna might look like.

Parsec Doberman 5-in-1

Below is a video outlining the antennas offered in our bundles.

Paddle Antenna Examples

The paddle antennas come with each router and look like the images below.

Installation example:

Antennas are responsible for sending and receiving signals from a mobile router to and from the cellular tower that the router is connected to. They can help boost cellular reception in remote areas, and the external roof antennas that we sell are  much more powerful than router paddle antennas. While the paddle antennas can perform decently over short ranges, a roof antenna is needed for a strong connection to cell towers further away from your location. For most of our customers, they are traveling around to a lot of different places, many of which are more rural areas and "off the beaten path.". We have seen a lot more consistent success in strong, fast internet for customers who use a roof antenna in their setup.

Recommended Configuration

If you have a roof antenna, we recommend keeping one WiFi paddle antenna installed while using the roof antenna leads for everything else. This will allow you to broadcast your WiFi from your router while still using the roof antenna to better connect to public WiFis for WiFi WAN connections. It does not matter which WiFi port is which as long as one port is the WiFi paddle antenna and the other is the roof antenna WiFi lead. Below is an example.
