Summary
If you are interested in using your Pepwave modem on Cricket Wireless or another carrier besides Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile or Sprint some settings must be changed to have the modem negotiate with these networks. This article will show you how to make these changes.
Before you get started contact your technical support department from the cellular carrier you wish to use and verify the APN settings necessary to register on their network. An APN is similar to a "username" and is required to register on to most cellular networks. The Pepwave is pre programmed for the 4 major carriers which is why this isnt needed but Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint but it will be required for other carriers.
Verifying Data Plan Compatibility
Before getting started is important to verify your data plan is compatible with a Peplink data only device. Plans designed to be used in phones or tablets are not compatible with data only devices. You must contact Cricket Wireless and notify them that you will be using the Pepwave device. They may tell you that the device is incompatible but simple tell them that you have activated it before and to simply try to activate the line using the IMEI from the Pepwave. The IMEI number can be found stamped on the outside of the cardboard box the modem came in or can be found on the Pepwave administrator dashboard under the cellular details tab (see below screenshots).
Navigate to the Dashboard Tab and select the cellular details button of modem you wish to add to your Cricket Account.
This will bring up the cellular details page. The IMEI is listed here.
Entering the Custom APN
To end the custom APN into your modem you will do so on the same Cellular Details page that you accessed above to get your IMEI number. Simply scroll down Cellular Settings. Select Custom under Operator Settings.
This will enable the APN box where you can enter the APN information. For Cricket Wireless the APN is typically "ndo" entered without the quotes as shown in the image above but this can change from time to time so make sure to check with Cricket. If you have a carrier other than Cricket you must use the APN setting for that carrier.
